THE LEGAL FATHER OF MY GIRL

Part 1

In a small village town called Kabiria. A very green, wet and dry region. In the early 2000s most of Kabiria people practiced farming for their daily living, majority of them were traditionalists; they used to worship and perform rituals for their god under a tree popularly known as Mūgumū tree. The whole community referred to that tree as sacred.
Most of Kabiria people spoke kikuyu, people from other tribes who came and settled in Kabiria learned speaking kikuyu and when they spoke it, they did it well in a manner that it was difficult to distinguish them from the kikuyus.
Kabiria people were Christians even though very few of them went to church. Most of the church attendees were women and small children; very few men and youths went to church. It was about 50 years after independence when Kabiria village became visible on Google map.

In that village of Kabiria, there was a girl called Kairetu, a light skinned girl. At her early tender age, she was popularly known for her obedience. She had a great love for books. She used to spend most of her leisure reading and she carried a book everywhere she went; even at market places. She was very obedient, both at school and outside the school. She could always agree to do whatever she was asked to by her elders, and she had a good reputation.

Kairetu was born in a humble family of 6, she wasn't the last-born nor the first-born, she grew up just like other girls in Kabiru village. Her mother Achieng Kamau was a farmer, she had a cow and farmed sukuma-wiki on their small piece of land. Kairetu's father, Sir Kamau Irūngū was a soldier and he was mostly on duties at the barracks and he had little time to spend with his wife and children, he only stayed home during his paid leave which was one month every year.

Ndichū, their first born was so much into drugs and had left to the city of Nairobi three years ago and no one had ever heard of his whereabouts since then. He was reported missing on radio. His family had looked for him without success.

Their second born Ochieng too had started drugs, left home and started living in the streets of Kabiria town. Thirdborn was Kairetu, and their last born Kariuki had dropped out of school and was just loitering around with boys who had dropped out of school too.

Kairetu was like the expected savior of her family. Her mother told her "Thoma na kīo fiū ūgataithia buratha ciaku na ūikarī ūkīmnyaga nīwī tūrorītī  igūrū" (study very hard so you can be helping your brothers,  and keep in mind that you are the one we're looking up to) oftentimes and she had absorbed it. She was among the leading students in their constituency in KCSE and she was fully sponsored to pursue a bachelor's degree in Medicine at Kenyatta University.

Part 2

In her first days in KU, anybody in campus could have told that Kairetu came from the village. She had few old fashioned long skirts and blouses which probably were her village-Sunday-bests.
She didn't take long to make new friends in campus. Catherine was her roomate and her first girlfriend. She taught her how to look sexy and helped her with make-up. Their girlfriend relationship was of a different caliber in short, they were in a girl-to-girl relationship Catherine had proposed to her in public kneeling down with a diamond ring. Their relationship was so toxic, they had even cut each palm and took oath with blood. They dated for 6 months before breaking up when Catherine found Kairetu with Wambua together and alone in their hostel. Maybe Kairetu was straight and Catherine was corrupting Kairetu's good morals because she never felt hurt-broken. Catherine got pissed off and walked out of their relationship. It was not a big deal for Kairetu for she felt delivered from gayness. She was already into Wambua her new boyfriend.

Wambua was a 19 year old gentleman from Ukambani. They were both in the same campus but they studied in different schools. Wambua was in the school of engineering while Kairetu was in the school of medicine. They met at KU's Culture week Event and Catherine wasn't around at that time. Wambua was MCing the event. Kairetu was among the judges. During the event Kairetu crowned him the best MC of the year.
After the event, they started meeting after classes and in the evening have a rough chat and separate to their hostels. When she broke up with catherine, they became close and later they started a boyfriend-girlfriend thing.

Wambua sneaked her into his hostel and spent the night together several times. I could have explained what happened in that hostel during the sleepovers but the white men say, "do not judge a book by the cover" and the walls had refused to tell me what they witnessed during those nights, and, I can't just conclude they were intercoursing just because they spent the night together.

After a short while, Kairetu became pregnant for Wambua. She had tested and she had the results. She was 1 week pregnant. She surprised Wambua with the results, Wambua looked shocked and terrified, he wasn't impressed with the results for he knew he wasn't ready for parental responsibilities. He even tried to convince her to abort but, Kairetu declined and assured him that she'll keep it. Although they agreed to keep it, Wambua didn't seem okay with the decision.

When semester was over and they had to vacate KU premises. Wambua refused to take her with him because he didn't have his own home and he couldn't move in with her and live with his parents and siblings under the same roof. Kairetu learned that Wambua was a mistake and she had to do something for the baby she plwas carrying. Wambua had to board a matatuu to town then to ukambani and she watched him walk away to the o
ther side of the road through the foot bridge.
